A Macrothylacia rubi é uma borboleta nocturna da família Lasiocampidae. Os adultos voam de Maio até Julho e podem ser vistos em florestas o prados abertos. Os machos são maiores do que as fêmeas, apresentando uma envergadura de 40-65 mm. As lagartas têm uma coloração castanha e alaranjada com pêlos que cobrem toda a parte superior do corpo. Alimentam- se de diversas famílias de plantas como as gramíneas, as bétulas, o Trifolium ou os geránios. A crisálida, igual do que acontece em outras borboletas nocturnas, forma-se debaixo da terra. A postura de ovos e feita à volta dos caules de estas plantas  e em grande quantidade.

The Fox moth is a night butterfly for Lasiocampidae family. The adults fly from May to July and can be seen in the forests and open meadows. Males are larger than females, with a magnitude of 40-65 mm. The caterpillars have a brown and orange with hairs that cover the entire upper body. They feed on various families of plants like grasses, the birches, the Trifolium or geraniums. The chrysalid, like others night butterflies, is form under the soil. The egg laying is done around the stems of these plants in large quantities.
